Buying the name you need

The domain you need is often taken: by a business with the same name, by an investor, or by someone who registered it years ago and forgot it. Buying it is possible in many cases, but the way you approach the holder shapes the price and the outcome.

Why use an intermediary

A known brand that asks for a domain signals that the name has value to it, and the price follows. An intermediary keeps the identity of the buyer confidential, deals with holders who do not answer or who ask for an unrealistic price, and makes sure the domain reaches you once the price is agreed.

How Domgate handles it

  • Research. We look at the domain, its history and its use, and identify the holder where the registration record or other sources allow it.
  • Approach and negotiation. We contact the holder on your behalf, without naming you, and negotiate within the budget you set.
  • Transfer. Once the terms are agreed, we organise the transfer of the domain into your account, with the procedure and the documents of its registry.

When the holder uses the name in bad faith against your trademark, buying it is not always the best answer: a recovery procedure may be.

What you provide

  • The domain, or the names you are looking for.
  • Your maximum budget, which stays between us.
  • Whether the purchase must stay confidential, and for how long.

Who it is for

Companies launching a brand or entering a market whose domain is taken, groups recovering names held by former partners, and registrars and law firms acting for their clients.

Domain acquisition: frequent questions

Will the holder know who is buying?

Not from us. We approach the holder in our own name and keep your identity confidential, unless you decide otherwise.

What if the holder refuses to sell?

Some holders do not sell, or not at an acceptable price, and we tell you when that is the case. If the domain infringes your trademark and is used in bad faith, a recovery procedure may be possible instead.

How is the domain delivered?

Through a transfer into your account, following the procedure of its registry. Restricted extensions may need documents or a local presence, which we arrange where needed.
