What is bulk domain registration?
Bulk registration means ordering many domain names at once instead of one at a time. With country code domains it usually takes one of two forms.
One name in many extensions
A brand, a product or a new company name registered in the country code extensions of the markets where it is sold: yourbrand.de, yourbrand.fr, yourbrand.com.br and so on. The name stays the same, but each extension has its own registry and its own rules.
A list of different names
A set of names in one or several extensions: the names of a product range, the variants of a brand, or the domains of several subsidiaries.
Why do country code domains need a check first?
Generic extensions such as .com are open to anyone. Many country code extensions are not: the registry may ask for a local presence, a company registration, prior rights on the name or an application form, and it sets its own terms and processing times. In a list that spans many extensions, some names can be ordered straight away and others need documents or our local presence service, so each name should be checked against the rules of its registry before you order.
How does a bulk registration work with Domgate?
Each name on a list follows the rules and the pace of its own registry. Here is how a list goes through, from the first search to the last registration.
1. Check the names
Search the list yourself with the domain search at the top of this page, which opens our order portal (see further down this page), or send it to us with the form on this page. Either give one name and the extensions you want, or paste a list of full domain names, one per line. Tell us who will hold the domains, a company or a person, and in which country: many registries decide on that.
When you send us the list, we tell you, name by name, which ones need documents or a local presence. The price of each extension is on our prices page.
2. Order them with their local presence
Available names can be added to the cart from the bulk search. Where an extension requires a local presence that you cannot provide yourself, our local presence service is ordered with the domain: its fee appears next to the registration price on the extension page, is charged per domain and per year, and covers the registration and each renewal.
3. Upload the documents
Some registries ask the holder for documents: a company registration, a trademark certificate, a power of attorney or an application form. You upload them in our client area. A local presence does not replace them.
4. Follow each registration
You follow the status of each registration in the client area. Each registry works at its own pace, shown on its extension page: for example, registration is automated for .de and .fr, takes two days for .sa and four to seven working days for .eg.
The names of one list are therefore not all registered on the same day.
Send us your list
Choose the kind of request, then paste your list, one per line: the extensions you want (.de, .fr, .com.br) or full domain names. After the list, tell us who will hold the domains, a company or a person, and in which country. The message field holds up to 5,000 characters; for a longer list or a spreadsheet, write to [email protected].
How we use your data
What can hold back a name on your list?
Each registry sets its own rules, and each extension page gives them under Local Presence and Registration. In a bulk registration, these are the ones to look at.
A local presence
Many registries ask for an address, a company or a contact in their country, and the condition differs from one to the next. For .fr, an address in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland is enough; for .es, the holder must have ties with Spain; for .ar, our local presence is compulsory.
Where you do not meet the condition, our local presence service provides it. The table of extensions gives its yearly price, or “On request”, for each extension where we offer it.
A trademark instead of a local presence
Some registries accept a trademark in place of a local presence, or ask for one as a prior right on the name:
- .au: an Australian trademark, registered or an application accepted or published by IP Australia, establishes the Australian presence, but only for a domain name that matches the words of the mark exactly.
- .sa: the name must have a reasonable relationship with its holder, such as its company name, a trademark it owns, or a close and substantial connection. The registry assesses each application on its own merits.
- .eg: prior rights are required. A local trademark, or an international (WIPO) registration, identical to the name opens both .eg and .com.eg; a local company name opens .com.eg only.
- .kw: a local company or a local trademark.
- .mc: a company with its seat, main establishment or an administrative office in Monaco, or a trademark registered or protected in Monaco. The name must match exactly the company name or a trade name shown in the Monaco trade register, or the trademark as shown on its registration certificate.
When you hold no trademark in the country yet, our trademark registration service files one.
Documents and application forms
Some registries ask for more than a local presence: a power of attorney and a DNS template for .eg; a power of attorney, a company certificate and an identity document of the signatory for .kw. A local presence does not replace these documents. We tell you which ones apply before you order.
Reserved names and higher prices
A registry can reserve or block names, or charge more for some of them: on .eg, two-character names are premium. A name that a lookup shows as not found may therefore still be reserved; the order confirms its availability.
Different registration terms
Registries set the terms for which a name can be registered and renewed: one to five years at registration and one year at renewal for .eg, one to ten years for both with .sa. Each extension page gives them.
Where it applies, the local presence fee follows the domain: it is charged per year and covers each renewal for as long as the domain stays with us.
Can I check several names myself first?
Yes. Three tools help before you send a list or place an order.
The prices page
Our prices page gives the registration, renewal and transfer price of every extension, in euros and excluding VAT, and the yearly price of our local presence service where it is published.
The whois lookup
Our whois lookup has a Several names tab that takes up to 20 names at a time, one per line, free and without an account; each connection can make 20 new lookups every 10 minutes. For most extensions it tells you whether each name is registered; for the few registries without a public RDAP or whois service, it links to their website so that you can search there.
A name that is not found is usually available; the order confirms it.
The bulk search of our order portal
The domain search at the top of this page opens our order portal. Type one name and choose the extensions, or type several full domain names separated by commas, such as brand.de,brand.fr: the portal shows which names are available or taken and lets you add them to your cart. Its Bulk Search tab also takes several names, one per line, and the extensions you choose.
Restricted extensions still need their documents and, where the registry requires one, a local presence. For a long list, or one with many restricted extensions, you can send it to us instead and we tell you which names need documents or a local presence.
Bulk registration: frequent questions
You can search them or send them all at once, but not every extension accepts every holder. Registries that require a local presence, prior rights or documents decide name by name, and for some extensions we do not offer the local presence. Each extension page gives its conditions, and when you send us the list, we tell you which names need documents or a local presence. To keep third parties from registering your trademark in a whole group of extensions without registering each name yourself, see defensive blocking.
The message field of the form holds up to 5,000 characters. For a longer list, or a spreadsheet, write to [email protected]. To check a few names yourself first, our whois lookup takes up to 20 names at a time.
Our prices page shows the registration, renewal and transfer price of every extension, in euros and excluding VAT, and the yearly price of our local presence service where it is published. Where the local presence table says “On request”, we quote the fee when you ask. Some registries charge more for certain names, such as two-character names on .eg.
No. Each registry processes registrations at its own pace: for example, registration is automated for .de and .fr, takes two days for .sa and four to seven working days for .eg. Some registries also wait for documents from the holder. The processing time of each extension is on its page, and you follow the status of each name in our client area.
Depending on the registry rules, we act as the local administrative contact, as the local address of the holder, or as the registrant of record. In every case a written agreement records that the domain is registered for you or your client, who keeps the use of it and the right to have it transferred. Our local presence page explains the service.
For some extensions, yes. For .au, an Australian trademark establishes the Australian presence for a domain name that matches its words exactly; .kw accepts a local company or a local trademark; .mc accepts a trademark registered or protected in Monaco, for a name that matches it exactly. Other registries, such as those of .sa and .eg, ask for a prior right on the name itself, such as a trademark or a company name. Our trademark registration service files a mark in the country when you have none.
Yes. Names you already hold are moved by transfer, not registered again. For many names at once, send us the list: we group the domains by registry, tell you which ones need documents or a local presence, and plan the transfers so that no domain expires in between. Our domain transfer page explains the procedure of each registry. To bring a whole portfolio held at several registrars into one account, see portfolio consolidation.
Our reseller program gives you one portal for all your country code domains, and our API to plug into your own platform, with a WHMCS module and EPP access. For a single list, you can also send it to us with the form on this page.
