A .NZ domain is registered and renewed for 1 to 10 years. Registration is automated. After the expiry date, a domain can still be renewed late: Until Renewal date + 4 days. Restoration after expiry: Day 4 until Day 94. A domain can be deleted before its expiry date.
A .NZ domain is transferred with its authorisation code (authcode), obtained from the current registrar. The domain does not need to be unlocked first. The transfer adds one year to the expiry date. The holder can be changed online.
