As new registry requirements for .RU domain names come into effect, foreign individuals and companies without a legal presence in Russia will be required to appoint a Local Presence (Trustee) to register or continue holding .RU domain names.

This guide outlines the documentation required for both companies and individuals to complete the ownership transfer and establish a Trustee arrangement.

 Requirements for Companies

Step 1: Ownership Change (Current Registrant Trustee)

To transfer the domain ownership from the current registrant to the Trustee, the following documents are required:

  • A scanned copy of the company's Certificate of Incorporation, Business Registration Certificate, or Chamber of Commerce Extract.
  • The document must be signed by an authorised representative and, where applicable, bear the company's official seal.
  • A completed Owner Change Application Form prepared on company letterhead, signed by an authorised representative, and stamped with the company seal.
  • Important: If your domain is currently managed by another registrar, please confirm whether they require the ownership change documents to be notarized. If notarization is required, it is generally recommended to transfer the domain first before proceeding with the ownership change.

Step 2: Trustee Requirements

To establish the Trustee arrangement, please provide:

  • A signed Trustee Agreement (no notarization required).
  • Certificate of Incorporation (or equivalent company registration document).
  • Document confirming the authority of the individual signing the Trustee Agreement.
  • Russian translations of both company documents (certification is not required).

Requirements for Individuals

Step 1: Ownership Change (Current Registrant Trustee)

The following documents are required:

  • A scanned copy of the current domain owner's passport or national identity document.
  • A completed Owner Change Application Form.
  • Important: If your domain is managed by another registrar, please verify whether notarization of the ownership change documents is required. If so, transferring the domain beforehand may simplify the process.

Step 2: Trustee Requirements

To complete the Trustee arrangement, please provide:

  • A valid passport or equivalent government-issued identity document.
  • A Russian translation of the identity document (certification is not required).

Key Points to Remember

  • Notarization is not required for the Trustee Agreement.
  • Russian translations are required for the requested company or identity documents; however, certification of the translations is not necessary.
  • Additional notarization requirements may vary depending on your current registrar. It is always advisable to verify their procedures before initiating the ownership change.
  • Preparing all required documentation in advance will help ensure a smooth and efficient transition to the Trustee arrangement.
